Driver injured after being hit by train in Vigo County

A Terre Haute man was injured Saturday afternoon when the car he was driving was hit by a train.

Just before 2 p.m., 79-year-old Ray Scheid was driving west on Evans Avenue in northern Vigo County when a CSX train struck his minivan.  He was taken to Union Hospital with head and leg injuries.

Officials say crossing lights and warning bells were functioning properly at the time of the accident.  All train warning indicators were working properly as well.
