IMPD and SWAT called to near westside Wednesday

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Dec. 17, 2013)– Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers responded to the 900 block of Division Street Wednesday afternoon. When officers arrived, witnesses said they heard a women screaming inside a home. Neighbors stated a man and a women were arguing when the man stated he was going to “kill” the female.

IMPD officers went to the home and attempted to make contact with the people inside, but were unsuccessful. The IMPD SWAT Team and negotiators were called to assist.

Once the SWAT Team and negotiators arrived, they set-up a perimeter around the home and began announcements.  After approximately two hours of announcements, a women emerged from the home. Additional negotiations were needed to coerce the male suspect to surrender. At approximately 7:45p.m., the suspect surrendered to police without incident.

A search warrant was applied for and granted by the court for the home.  Detectives are gathering the facts and will pursue criminal charges  of violation of a protective order, and felony intimidation.
