BOONE COUNTY (Dec. 19, 2013) – A fatal crash involving a pickup and a semi truck shut down a Boone County road for three hours Thursday.

It happened at 6:48 a.m. on State Road 47 east of State Road 39. The accident blocked State Road 47, and forced police to redirect traffic in the area. Drivers were told to seek alternate routes and stay clear of the area so emergency crews could work at the scene.

According to a Thursday afternoon update from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, the wheels of the semi truck went off the road, and the driver lost control. The semi crossed the center line and hit a 2002 GMC pickup truck head-on.

The driver of the pickup was killed instantly, investigators said. Police identified him as 19-year-old Eric James Austin of Kirklin, Ind. His family has been notified.

The driver of the semi, 48-year-old Anthony N. Morrow of Rochester, Ind., suffered a hip injury and went to an area hospital.

Authorities will reconstruct the crash. The findings will take several weeks to complete.
