INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (January 7, 2014) – A man died following a garage follow Tuesday morning on the west side.

Wayne Township Fire Department crews responded to a fire with entrapment just before 5 a.m. in the 4800 block of Plainfield Avenue.

Fire crews arrived to find a detached garage with fire and smoke showing.

Crews made entry into the garage and located one victim, who they determined was dead. Before they could remove the victim, who was in a car, conditions worsened and the structure collapsed.  Firefighters narrowly escaped.

The fire is now under control, but the cold is affecting firefighters.  A Wayne Township school bus was brought to the scene to provide a place for firefighters to warm up as they rotated crews.

Decatur Fire and IFD crews are assisting Wayne Township.
