INDIANAPOLIS (Jan. 9, 2014) – Eight Marsh stores will close before the end of the month, the company said Thursday.
Marsh Supermarkets made the announcement to employees Thursday morning. The eight stores saw declining customer bases, and in some cases, expiring leases were also a factor.
According to Marsh, the closures are part of a “three-year plan we are implementing this year to position Marsh Supermarkets for growth and profitability.” The chain said the strategy includes a major capital project to bring all stores under the Marsh brand, update/remodel existing locations and build stores in new or existing markets.
March said “we are reacting to the realities of the markets and making difficult decisions to address the long-term health of the company.”
The company said employees affected by the change will be placed in another position within the company if possible or offered a severance package.
The stores set to close are:
- Muncie – West Bethel and South Madison
- Indianapolis – Lafayette Road and Thompson/Emerson
- Speedway – Crawfordsville Road
- Franklin, Ohio
