LAPORTE COUNTY, Indiana (Jan. 18, 2014) — Three friends were riding their snowmobiles early Saturday morning in LaPorte County, when they were involved in an accident.

Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating how the accident occurred just outside of Westville, near State Road 2.

The three were operating their snowmobiles on unfamiliar private property.

Officers say they believe the drivers were launched as far as 45 feet from the ditch while their snowmobiles rolled several times.

All three riders were injured due to the impact of the accident.

The snowmobile drivers, identified as David Pilarski, Charlie Herrold and Sam Thompson were wearing helmets.

Pilarski, 20, from Westville suffered a concussion, broken right femur, and broken nose.  Herrold, 18, of LaPorte suffered a broken clavicle and Thompson, 22, from LaPorte, suffered a broken nose.

Pilarski and Herrold were taken to St. Anthony’s Medical Center for treatment.

Indiana Conservation Officers want to remind snowmobile riders to obtain permission from the landowner before operating on their property, and to register your off-road vehicle at your local Bureau of Motor Vehicle Office.
