Two in critical after SUV flips and slides into gas station on northeast side

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (January 18, 2014) — Two women are in critical condition and two others are injured after crashing into an electrical box and a gas station on the northeast side.

It happened at the Falcon Gas Station at the corner of East 38th Street and North Emerson Avenue early Saturday morning, around 1:20 a.m.

Witnesses told police the SUV was headed westbound on 38th Street and was trying to beat the red light, but as it entered the intersection, the vehicle had to swerve to miss another car. That’s when the SUV smashed into an electricla box, flipped onto its side and skidded into the gas station, landing between two pumps.

At least one person had to be extricated from the vehicle. Two of the women were sent to Eskanazi and two to Methodis Hospital. No one was hit and no one else was injured.

The gas station didn’t suffer any damage.

A FACT team was on  the way to the scene. Police do not know if alcohol was a factor.
