INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Jan. 23, 2014)– A woman and a young girl were killed Thursday morning following a house fire on Indianapolis’ east side.

Crews responded to the fire in the 400 block of South Oakland Avenue around 10:33 a.m.

A neighbor from down the street thought he saw smoke, went to confirm and called 911. Neighbors told arriving firefighters that the family had three children, but two should be at school.

IFD first-responding firefighters found the adult female quickly upon searching the home, and CPR was begun upon her removal from the home. The woman was taken to Eskanazi Health, in critical condition.  She was also pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

The child was located soon after and transported to Riley Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

Two dogs were also killed in the fire.
