INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Jan. 31, 2014) — A firefighter injured his hand while battling a house fire on the near northwest side of Indianapolis Friday morning.

An Indianapolis Fire Department spokesperson said the firefighter was taken for x-rays, but is expected to be okay.

The dual residence on the 800 block of Roache Street is considered vacant and crews did not find anybody inside when they arrived and did a sweep of the house.

Shortly after, IFD pulled its firefighters out of the building for their own safety just minutes before the roof caved in.

As has been the case repeatedly this winter, the cold played a factor in the responding crews’ ability to fight the fire.  IFD told FOX59 news its crews experienced water issues because some hydrants were frozen.
