INDIANAPOLIS – The community is rallying behind the family of a 13-year-old boy who was shot in the head in Indianapolis last weekend. Young Men Incorporated, lead by Reverend Malachi Walker held a prayer vigil hoping for the young victim’s healing.
The shooting happened at a home in the 3400 block of Aylesford Lane just before midnight last Saturday. The teens were there for a friend’s birthday party. Law enforcement along with community leaders want the teens to know its ok to speak up if they know something.
The victim’s mother says it’s time for the community to come together and empower the youth.
“I’m carrying in my heart , prayers for my son praying for a full recovery for him to be as those kids are up in the sanctuary just back with us, secondly I’m praying for the city, we need change, something has got to shake,” said Deandra Yates.
the victim is in critical but stable condition. The young boy’s father says stopping the violence begins in the home.
“Me as a father that’s going through this I could’ve done better and I need every father out there to do better for their teenage boys because you don’t know when its gone be your last time seeing your child,” said Jerald Keys.
Indianapolis Police Chief, Richard Hite was also there with his team to show their also hurting for the community and want to see change. Investigators are still looking for tips in this case.
