INDIANAPOLIS (Feb. 12, 2014) – Job hunters who speak Spanish, English or both are invited to a bilingual career fair Wednesday.
The fourth annual event is happening at the Indianapolis Zoo White River Gardens facility from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
About 20 companies and employment agencies will be there, including The Home Depot.
“We recognize that the Hispanic community seems to be growing the fastest, so as a company we want to be sure to reflect that as well,” said Erica Jarmon, who manages the store on the west side of Indianapolis near 38th Street and High School Road.
She said the company is looking to fill 100 positions in central Indiana.
Nearly 17 percent of the United States population is Hispanic. Indiana’s Hispanic population is just above six percent, with a growing population in the Indianapolis area. In the 2010 census, 9.4 percent of the Indianapolis population was Hispanic.
“Speaking another language, you are definitely an asset to any company,” Jarmon said.
Translators from the Indiana Latino Institute will be at Wednesday’s event to help translate and help candidates fill out applications.
Radio Latina is hosting the event with CertaPro Painters as a presenting sponsor.
