INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Feb. 19, 2014)– A warrant for attempted murder has been issued for the man accused of shooting his ex-wife multiple times outside a northwest side Indianapolis daycare Tuesday.

Police continue to search for 33-year-old Christopher Justice, who is accused of opening fire in the parking lot of KinderCare located in the 6700 block of Eagle View Drive. Police said his ex-wife, 31-year-old Shirley Justice, had just dropped off her two young children before she was shot right next to her car.

Christopher Justice was last seen driving a 2006 black Ford Fusion with an “In God We Trust” license plate, number UXR330.

Detectives have spent the past two days following up on leads. Police issued a be on the lookout alert to law enforcement from Indianapolis to Kentucky.

FOX59 learned the suspect was awarded sole custody of their daughter last week. An attorney for Christopher Justice was in court filing paperwork the morning of the shooting. His attorney, Jennifer Bays Beinart, said the child’s mother failed to return her after a scheduled visit.

“I personally was worried in fact I contacted the police when the child was not returned and tried to get police assistance to transfer the child back to my client,” said Jennifer Bays Beinart, a family law attorney for Christopher Justice.

Police reports and court records may shed some light on their tumultuous relationship. A 2008 police report was made while Shirley Justice was staying at a domestic violence shelter. She filed a complaint stating her husband threatened to kill her and her daughter if she left him. The couple filed for divorce that same year.

Christopher Justice was also charged with invasion of privacy in 2008. A court spokesperson said he was assigned 26 weeks of domestic violence counseling. Court documents also show a motion to modify custody was filed in January 2013.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts is urged to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
