INDIANAPOLIS — The delicious aroma from Georgia Street paired with Friday’s sunshine drew in a huge crowd for the relaunch of Food Truck Friday.

Indianapolis Downtown Inc. kicked off the expanded Food Truck Friday look from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the stretch of Georgia Street near the Indiana Convention Center.

“Georgia Street’s a real asset, just to bring people down,” said Melissa Thompson, Georgia Street Manager. “They have a place to congregate, hang out and just use.  And just enjoy themselves and be outside.  It’s a great public space.”

Rather than just once a month as in the past, the event will be weekly this year.

“We work  right around the corner so we thought we’d come out here,” said Hollyn Crabtree. “It’s a nice day out, so why not come outside?!”

Finally being able to dish out their specialties is a relief to food truck owners.

Gigi’s Cupcakes owner Nick Pappas says business this winter has been “nonexistent.”

From water lines freezing to ice salt ruining paint jobs, food trucks ran into several roadblocks thanks to Old Man Winter.

“But today, we’ll sell out!” said Pappas. “We brought about 15 dozen cupcakes and about a dozen or two dozen cookies and it should all be gone. Just look at the crowds. Everybody is out!”

Food Truck Friday will be weekly on Fridays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. until November 22, 2014 excluding March 28, 2014, April 25, 2014, May 30, 2014, July 4, 2014, July 18, 2014, August 8, 2014, August 15, 2014, September 12, 2014, October 10, 2014, October 24, 2014, November 7, 2014, November 14, 2014, November 28, 2014.
