(March 28, 2014) – “Deaf and dumb.”

That’s the message that greeted a Texas couple after their lost luggage was returned by American Airlines.

James Moehle and Angela Huckaby, who are both hearing impaired, were returning from a vacation in Hawaii when their suitcases were misplaced. When the luggage was returned, it came along with a handwritten form that said, “Please text, deaf and dumb.”

The couple wrote a letter to American Airlines to say they’re hardworking people and responsible parents who deserved to be treated with dignity. They asked for an apology.

American Airlines issued a statement saying it was “clearly a poor choice of words” and that the air carrier was “confident there was no ill will.” The airline pledged to look further into the situation.
