FRANKFORT (April 1, 2014) – Black smoke could be seen for miles Tuesday afternoon from a fire at an industrial park in Frankfort.

Authorities told FOX59 the fire started at a recycling plant. The fire itself was from plastics, crates, and other items outside. The actual building was not in jeopardy. Strong winds proved challenging for firefighters. The cause remains unknown, but firefighters say the situation is now under control.

The fire closed part of County Road 200 West. Nearby residents were being told to stay in their homes because of the smoke.

Officials at Frankfort School Corporation were making arrangements to dismiss Suncrest Elementary students due to heavy smoke in the area.
