INDIANAPOLIS,  Ind. (April 2, 2014)– Firefighters with the Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) investigated some possibly hazardous material at BP gas station on the city’s east side Wednesday.

IFD was dispatched to 2102 N. Post Rd. for an investigation of a suspicious substance at 3:36 pm.

At 6:50 p.m., IFD reported that the substance had been determined to not be a threat.

The initial call came from a woman who was traveling on the interstate when she decided to open a letter from the pile of mail she brought with her. It was at that time she noticed the substance in the envelope and she called 911. Dispatchers encouraged her to pull over, which she did, at the Ricker’s Gas Station at 21st and Post. She was taken to Community North as a precaution.

The substance was contained to an envelope and the area of contamination contained to an individual’s car.

IMPD will continue the investigation
