STARKE COUNTY, Ind. (April 30, 2014)—A Logansport woman faces felony drug charges after police found 172 baggies of heroin on her following a traffic stop.

Kelly Koranda, 36, was arrested on charges of dealing with a narcotic drug, possession of a narcotic drug over three grams, maintaining a common nuisance and operating while intoxicated on a controlled substance.

Police said Koranda was pulled over for a traffic infraction on US 35, just south of 500 North in northern Starke County. Troopers on the scene became suspicious after speaking to Koranda and said she displayed signs of impairment.

Koranda was transported to IU Health Starke Hospital for a drug test. As the test was being administered, a nurse discovered Koranda was hiding several baggies of heroin in her underwear, said police. Koranda reportedly admitted to eating 10 packets of the suspected heroin and hiding other packets in her underwear prior to being stopped by a trooper. Police said 172 baggies of heroin, weighing about 36 grams, was recovered from Koranda.

Koranda was hospitalized due to the ingestion of the drugs, said police. She was arrested Sunday following her release and taken to Starke County Jail.
