SPENCER COUNTY (May 1, 2014) – Indiana State Police arrested a young father accused of biting the ears of his 5-month-old son when the child wouldn’t stop crying.

Samuel Brinson, 22, Chrisney, was charged preliminarily with battery causing injury to a child less than 14 years of age.

State police said Brinson was taking care of the boy early Sunday morning when he became frustrated with the baby’s crying. Investigators said he squeezed the boy’s abdominal area too hard when he picked him up, causing bruising. While the baby continued to cry, police said Brinson bit his ears.

The boy’s mother took him to Memorial Hospital in Jasper, believing the baby had a rash. He was transferred to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville, Ky., so doctors could evaluate him for internal injuries.

Brinson was arrested without incident in Ferdinand and taken to the Spencer County Jail.
