Parents arrested, accused of neglecting 4-month-old daughter
GREENFIELD – A Hancock County couple has been charged with neglecting their 4-month-old child.
The baby girl turned 4-months-old today. She has been placed in the custody of her great grandparents. The little girl’s parents, Michael Knott and Andi Suddarth, are behind bars.
Knott has been charged with one count of a neglect of a dependent. Suddarth has been charged with two counts of neglect of a dependent. Authorities referred to two incidents. Captain Jeff Rasche said hospital officials contacted his agency in late March.
Suddarth stated she noticed her daughter’s sleeping and eating behavior had changed earlier. Then, both parents contacted emergency personnel stating their daughter was having issues breathing. Captain Rasche stated the little girl had serious head injuries, blood on her brain, and hemorrhaging of the eyes.
FOX 59 obtained copies of the probable cause affidavit filed for both parents. In those court documents, Knott and Suddarth stated they had no clue who would hurt their child or how she received the injuries.
“No one else was there to speak for the child, so hopefully we have,” Captain Rasche said.
In the court documents, authorities referred to an early February incident too.
“We were able to determine during our investigation that the parents had withheld some information to the officials at Community Hospital and didn’t give them specific information or maybe what happened to the child with regards to a fall. it changed the diagnoses,” Captain Rasche said.
The couple appeared before a judge Monday afternoon. Families of both parents were in court today, but they declined to speak on camera.
Captain Rasche said doctors indicated it would be difficult to determine the extent of her injuries at this age. Doctors should have a better idea when she is closer to 2-years-old.
