LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, Ind. (May 8, 2014) — A man was critically hurt Thursday morning after a car hit him while he walked down a road in Lawrence Township.

The incident happened at Mitthoefer Road and North Pepperidge Drive.

Police said the victim, a 21-year-old man, was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition.

The driver was brought in for a blood draw, which police said is customary in possible fatality crashes. The car was heading south on Mitthoefer and had just gone over a small hill when it hit the man. Witnesses said the victim was wearing dark clothing. Police said the driver told them he didn’t see the man on the road before the accident.

Investigators said neither alcohol nor speed appeared to be factors.
