FOUNTAIN COUNTY — (May 17, 2014) — A fatal semi crash shut down I-74 east in Fountain County Friday.

It happened around 5:30 p.m., about three miles east of US 41.

Police say the semi driver was headed east on I-74, when he left the roadway, drove into the median and crashed into a bridge support.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The bridge (SR 341) has been deemed safe for travel.

The driver had been hauling a trailer of cat food which was strewn all over both east and westbound lanes. Both directions have been shut down for several hours while police investigate the crash and crews work to clean up the mess. It is unknown how long the interstate will remain closed.
