(May 20, 2014) – Not only is it National Strawberry Month, but Tuesday is also Pick Strawberries Day!

This time of year fruit farms across the country open to let the public help themselves to their latest crop.

Picking your own strawberries will provide you with the freshest fruit possible, and it’s also an opportunity to support your local farmers.

While out in the fields, make sure to choose plump, bright red berries as those are the ripest. Additionally, sometimes smaller strawberries are sweeter than the bigger berries.

When storing your strawberries, it’s important to not wash them before putting them in the refrigerator because that encourages spoiling.

Use your fresh strawberries to make this mouth-watering recipe from FOX59 Assignment Editor Kylee Wierks!
