UPDATE | Silver Alert canceled after Lawrence man found

(May 23, 2014)– The Silver Alert issued for 87-year old Alzheimer patient Theodore Johnson has been canceled. Johnson was located close to the nursing home he disappeared from last week.  Police said residents in the area found Johnson laying on the ground between two houses.  They believe Johnson was trying to make his way back to the nursing home.

Johnson was taken to the VA Hospital for evaluation.  He is listed in stable condition.


(May 22, 2014) – Police said there have been two possible sightings of 87-year old Alzheimer patient Theodore Johnson, who walked away from the Lawrence Manor nursing home near E. 46th St & N. Post Rd. at around 1:45 am on Tuesday morning, May 20, 2014.  Police said witnesses reported seeing Johnson in the 9600 block of of E. 42nd St. on Wednesday.  They said Johnson was seen getting into an early 90’s model gray Ford Taurus.  The second sighting was reported near the intersection of E. 42nd St. and N. Post Rd. around 8:30 a.m. this morning.  According to witnesses, Johnson was acting erratically as he walked north on Post Road.  Officers searched the areas, but Johnson was not located.

Authorities said Johnson is wearing a clear plastic bracelet, which contains emergency contact information.

(May 21, 2014) Lawrence police said they received an unconfirmed report that Johnson had been spotted in the 9600 block of East 42nd Street. The tipster said he was in a gray Ford Taurus. Police said it’s the first solid report they’ve had regarding Johnson and were continuing their search. They continue to ask people to report any sightings by calling 911 or the Lawrence Police Department at (317) 545-7575.


INDIANAPOLIS (May 20, 2014) – Indianapolis and Lawrence authorities were looking for a missing man Tuesday morning on the northeast side. Indiana State Police said a Silver Alert has been activated.

IFD tweeted that the man disappeared from a nursing facility. Crews were searching in the area of 46th Street and Post Road for 87-year-old Theodore Johnson, described as a nursing home patient who suffers from Alzheimer’s. He was last seen at Lawrence Manor Nursing Home around 1:45 a.m.

He was last seen wearing a blue, white and black plaid shirt, dark pants and dark shoes. Officials at the facility said he escaped through a window. Agencies involved in the search include IFD, City of Lawrence Fire and Police and the Department of Natural Resources, which has deployed a K-9 to aid in the effort.
