Police: Drugs led to triple killing; Gary man charged with murder

INDIANAPOLIS (May 23, 2014) – Indianapolis Metropolitan homicide detectives arrested a Gary, Ind., man Friday in connection with a shooting that left three men dead on the northeast side.

Montrel Humphrey, 20, faces charges of murder and robbery. He was apprehended in Gary Friday morning and brought to Indianapolis for processing.

The shooting in the 5200 block of Lakemanor Drive killed Stranger Dunn, 34; Esker Dodson-Walker, 33; and Valdemar Enriquez, 21. According to IMPD, Humphrey, Enriquez and another person planned to carry out a drug robbery Monday night. It ended with a shootout that resulted in the deaths of Dunn, Dodson-Walker and Enriquez. A stray bullet from the gunbattle hit a 10-year-old girl in the leg.

Police seized heroin and marijuana from the home, and said everyone involved in the case had connections to Gary, Ind.

IMPD said more suspects could be charged.
