INDIANAPOLIS, April 28, 2014—Today WXIN-TV/WTTV-TV Vice President and General Manager Paul Rennie announces that WXIN-TV FOX59 is expanding its news operation to include a 7pm and 11pm newscast, making it the largest provider of local television news in Indianapolis. The 11pm news, FOX59 NewsPoint at 11, is scheduled to premiere on Monday, June 30, 2014, with FOX59 News at 7PM scheduled to launch later in the fall. With the news expansion also comes the naming of Indiana native and former WTHR-TV anchor/reporter Nicole Pence as anchor of NewsPoint. Veteran Emmy award-winning Indianapolis broadcasters Bob Donaldson and Fanchon Stinger will co-anchor FOX59 News at 7PM.
“Over the past several years, FOX59 News has seen tremendous growth in terms of news hours and viewers. The addition of the FOX59 News at 7 and NewsPoint at 11pm is the next logical step in our expansion” says Rennie. “We’re excited to bring viewers in Central Indiana more options to watch news when and how they want it.”
NewsPoint will be packaged as a standalone newscast— a concise wrap-up of the day’s events, plus a quick look forward to tomorrow’s weather. NewsPoint will have a distinct look and feel from the rest of FOX59’s newscasts seen throughout the day, and will feature Nicole Pence as anchor. Pence makes her return to Indianapolis news following her departure from WTHR in 2013, and will serve as primary anchor for NewsPoint, among other reporter/anchor roles for the station. “Nicole brings to NewsPoint instant credibility and familiarity for 11pm news viewers” says Rennie. “We couldn’t be happier that she is part of the FOX59 News team.”
FOX59 News Director Kerri Cavanaugh feels the new format of NewsPoint is an excellent alternative for late night news viewers. “Indianapolis news viewers are well informed, savvy, and deserving of an 11pm newscast with a fast-paced, no-nonsense approach. NewsPoint is just that– news that’s straight to the point, and it fits in perfectly with the FOX59 News brand.”
Pence, a multiple Emmy award-nominated anchor/reporter, is a native of Columbus, Indiana and graduated Cum Laude from DePaw University with a double major in Communication Arts & Sciences and Spanish, and a minor in Political Science. She earned her Master’s of Public Affairs degree from Indiana University-Purdue University with high honors. She is recently married.
