GRANT COUNTY, Ind. (June 8, 2014) — A Grant County man has been cited after he shot and killed a Canada Goose.

Officials received a complaint about 63-year-old Carl Wick of Marion after he was spotted shooting at the geese. Wick admitted to shooting at the animals multiple times and killing one on his property which borders a retention pond.

Wick told officers the geese were a nuisance and that he didn’t want them on his property. Officers cited and released Wick after he signed a notice to appear in court for the incident. He faces a class C misdemeanor, which is punishable by up to 60 days in jail and a fine of up to $500.

Conservation Officers would like to remind the public that Canada Geese are regulated by federal law and may not be killed outside of regular hunting season without first acquiring a permit. For more information, click here.
