INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A series of blue dots are scattered on a map of Indiana, each one represents the site of a former meth lab.
It is now easy to find out if a meth lab was operating in a neighborhood or inside a home someone wants to buy. A new Indiana State Police website lists the location of former meth labs. It also provides a report showing what kind of chemicals were found inside.
“And we have documented instances where I have been contacted by realtors who said, ‘Hey, we just found out we’re showing this home and a neighbor came up and said by the way did you know they were cooking meth here at this house?'” said Sgt. Michael Toles with Indiana State Police Meth Suppression.
The website allows users to pull up locations by county with information dating back to 2007. The state has strict standards when it comes to cleaning up meth labs.
“It’s a lot more complicated than even just putting on a suit, you gotta know what you’re doing,” said Donetta Held, owner of Crisis Cleaning.
