INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (June 30, 2014)— An Indianapolis man was injured after a garage collapsed, pinning his legs underneath the rubble.

Crews with the Indianapolis Fire Department were dispatched to the 3000 block of W. 10th Street on the city’s west side around 12:50 p.m. after receiving a report of an entrapment. When responders arrived to the scene, they found 42-year-old Darrell Jones pinned.

IFD officials said Jones and two others were hired to tear down the garage, which was previously damaged after being hit by a car in May. The homeowner hired the workers to demolish the structure.

Witnesses told officials Jones was too close during the removal of the final load and his legs became pinned underneath the northwest corner of the structure. Officials said a PODS container nearby prevented Jones’ legs from being crushed.

Jones was transported to Eskenazi Health in good condition.
