Fallen Tipton County deputy to be laid to rest Monday

FLORA (July 7, 2014) – A fallen Tipton County sheriff’s deputy will be laid to rest Monday.

Funeral services for Jacob Calvin, 31, Kempton, will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School. On June 28, Calvin died after crashing his patrol car on the way to help someone involved in a car accident. He lost control of the cruiser and was ejected.

Calvin graduated from Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School in 2001. He served in the Air Force and was stationed in Iraq. He spent six years in the military police and had worked for the Tipton County Sheriff’s Department for more than two years. In addition, he served in the Kempton Volunteer Fire Department and was a trained EMT.

He’ll be buried with police and military honors at Maple Lawn Cemetery after the funeral Monday.

Visitation for Calvin was Sunday at the high school.
