GREEN BAY, Wis. (July 15, 2014) – Who needs a police car?

A Green Bay police officer may just be the nation’s first skateboarding law enforcement officer.

Joel Zwicky came up with the idea after the chief asked officers for new ways to engage the community. He said the skateboard gets him out of the squad car and into local neighborhoods.

Zwicky, who considers skateboarding one of his favorite pastimes, said the skateboard lets him go places he couldn’t reach with his police cruiser. He’s been doing patrols since March.

He said he hopes the idea catches on with other departments across the country.
