(INDIANAPOLIS)–The inclement weather Saturday ,  put a halt to the morning activities and races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

“Fortunately,  we didn’t have a lot of people here because people saw the weather coming in and it was early. We just made sure that the people that were here in the facility took a little bit of shelter especially since the lighting came through,” said IMS President Doug Boles.

Fans started filing in around 7 a.m, but quickly had to run for cover as heavy rains and lightning were in the area.

“We are going to make sure our fans know what’s coming, if there’s anything coming through our radars here on the big screens and we will let them know what to do either on the PA or through the big screens if weather comes,” said Boles.

Along with issuing warnings on the speedway monitors, IMS officials also sent out alerts on social media.
