INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (July 29, 2014) -- Eskenazi Health officially opens its new public green space dubbed The Commonground at a ceremony on Tuesday morning.

The festivities start at 11 a.m. just outside of the main entrance to the downtown Indianapolis hospital.

Leaders told FOX59 News that The Commonground is a collaborative effort to provide a place for emotional healing, which will then aide in physical healing.

The Commonground features a rising and receding wading fountain, a rocky waterfall, flowing garden and a well-regarded restaurant.

"Kids come over and just play in [the wading fountain]. Adults come and just take their shoes off and walk through it," said Matthew Gutwein, President and CEO of Marion County's Health and Hospital Corporation, which oversees Eskenazi Health.  "When they do that, they experience joy and happiness and all of that heals them as well."
