(August 5, 2014) - National Night Out, "America's Night Out Against Crime," is kicking off tonight with events all throughout Central Indiana. The 31st annual event focuses on cutting crime by encouraging neighbors to get to know each other and look out for suspicious activity in their community.

Fifteen thousand communities are expected to take part across the county. Fishers will host its event in the Nickel Plate District from 7-10 p.m. Tuesday.

"We believe the key to detecting and deterring criminal activity is to have good working relationships with residents and so we want people to come out enjoy the evening," said Sgt. Tom Weger.

"There will be lots of activates here on the property, they’ll be able to interact with police officers and learn more about what we're doing and learn things they can do to be more safe in their homes and in the community," he said.
