INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (August 18, 2014) – An Indianapolis Metropolitan officer was injured after his vehicle was struck by a semi Monday morning.

The accident occurred just before 3:30 a.m. on I-465 002 Ramp A/S East St.

According to Sgt. David Kinsey, an IMPD officer was traveling westbound on 465 when he felt his tire going low.

“So he started to slow down. He looked up in his rearview mirror, saw the semi coming, the next thing he knew the semi hit him. Probably pushed him about 500 feet,” said Kinsey.

The officer was transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital as a precaution.

The semi driver is fine and is cooperating with the investigation.

“Right now they’re just working on getting the car unpinned from the semi and once we get that all done  we’ll go ahead and tow both vehicles…he’s very lucky tonight,” Kinsey said.

IMPD said the officer was treated for minor injuries and has since been released from the hospital. He’s recovering at home.
