INDIANAPOLIS (Aug. 18, 2014) – Generally good weather, the debut of the new Fairgrounds Coliseum and the return of beer and wine helped make this year’s Indiana State Fair the third most attended in history.

Fair officials said the fair attracted 954,884 people before wrapping up Sunday. The new Indiana Beer and Wine Exhibition drew 48,259 visitors, the fair said. More than 70 different breweries and wineries took part in the exhibit, which featured up to four different brewers and four different wineries during each day of the fair.

State Fair Executive Director Cindy Hoye said the debut of the Fairgrounds Coliseum was a memorable moment for organizers. She said a capacity crowd watched the first draft horse show.

Temperatures during the fair were seasonably low, and rain hindered attendance for three of the fair’s 17 days.

Organizers expect to announce their “year of” theme for next year in October. The 2015 Indiana State Fair runs from Aug. 7 through Aug. 23.
