INDIANAPOLIS (Aug. 20, 2014) – A man who fatally shot his girlfriend in front of police before turning the gun on himself has died.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office said Joshua Higgins, 24, passed away. An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

Indianapolis Metropolitan police were called to a domestic dispute at Hoover Park Condominiums in the 6400 block of Park Central Way around 1 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10. Police said Higgins shot and killed Candice Hunter in front of them and then pointed the gun at officers.

He fired several shots and ran off. Police later heard a gunshot and found Higgins lying in the grass after shooting himself in the head.

Family members told FOX59 that Hunter and Higgins had a 6-month-old child together. Hunter also had a 23-month-old. They had attended a concert at Klipsch Music Center on Saturday night before they started arguing.
