Two teens shot during house party advertised on Instagram

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Sept. 7, 2014) — Two people were shot on the east side of Indianapolis late Saturday night, including one young teen. The calls came in one minute apart and about two miles down the street from each other.

IMPD was first dispatched to to  the 6800 block of East 38th street on reports of a person shot,

Upon arrival, officers located a 13-year-old male inside the home with an apparent gunshot wound to the buttocks.

 

He was transported to Riley Hospital for Children by EMS personnel in good condition and was released a short time later.

A second victim, a 19-year-old male, was located at the 6800 block of E 38th St after flagging officers down and advising them that he was shot at a house party.

That individual suffered a gunshot wound to the forearm.

 

He was transported to IU Methodist Hospital in stable condition.

Detectives spoke with witnesses at the scene. They advised that a large birthday party, attended mainly by teenagers, had been advertised on Instagram.

At one point, six to ten people began to cause a disturbance when shots were fired.

It is estimated that approximately 150 people were in attendance at the home.

IMPD advises that it is important to be aware of the potential risks that come along with opening your home to unknown persons. Some of those risks are:

– Gatecrashing

-Use of drugs

-Underage drinking

-Physical assaults and fighting

-Getting arrested

-Civil liability for the homeowner if anyone gets injured due to illegal activity

ll parties should have a sober and responsible adult present at all times monitoring all activities. Additionally, parents should also always monitor their children’s social media activity.
