(Sept. 9, 2014) – Monday night marked the final “supermoon” of the year.

Clear conditions gave us a great look at the full moon, which looks bigger and brighter because the moon is closer to the Earth. NASA said it can appear 14% larger and 30% bright.

September’s full moon is called the “Harvest Moon”, according to the Farmers’ Almanac, since farmers used to use the moonlight to harvest crops. It sometimes has an orange appearance due to the dust in the air from the harvest.
