BLOOMINGTON (Sept. 9, 2014) – Bloomington police arrested a teenager in connection with a July robbery on the B-Line Trail.

The arrest came after the teen was interviewed in connection with a purse theft case Monday. The 17-year-old was not arrested in the latter case, police said, although he was charged with shoplifting items from three stores in College Mall earlier in the day.

In the B-Line Trail incident on July 28, a woman riding her bike said a man stepped in her path, forcing her to stop. Two other people then joined him, ordering her to the ground at gunpoint. They stole various items, including her cell phone. The gun used in the case was a BB gun, the teen suspect told police when recounting the crime.

The teen’s involvement came to light when a woman reported a purse theft on Monday at Bloomingfoods in the 300 block of West 6th Street. Two teens ran toward the B-Line Trail as a friend of the woman chased after them.

Police detained the 17-year-old suspect near West 8th Street and the B-Line Trail. The second, a 15-year-old, was apprehended while hiding behind a shed on West Cottage Grove Avenue. He still had the woman’s purse when police found him.

Police charged the other juvenile with theft. Both teens were taken to the Jackson County Juvenile Detention Center.
