Shamrock Series, first Colts home game highlight busy weekend in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (Sept. 9, 2014) – It’s another big weekend in the Circle City as the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame and Purdue Boilermakers square off in the Shamrock Series and football fans prepare for the first home game for the Indianapolis Colts on Monday Night Football.

Downtown Indy has a look at all of the events set for the weekend:

Shamrock Series – Purdue vs. Notre Dame

The Irish are coming to Downtown Indy! The Fighting Irish are heading to Indianapolis for the 2014 Shamrock Series weekend. Cheer on your favorite team at the Notre Dame vs. Purdue game at Lucas Oil Stadium Saturday, Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m. Other highlights:

Notre Dame Pep Rally

Friday, Sept. 12 from 5 – 6:30 p.m.

Georgia Street

The rally will feature musical performances by The Fighting Jamesons, Pat McKillen ’10 and the Notre Dame Marching Band.

Shamrock Series 5K

Saturday, Sept. 13 at 8 a.m.

Bankers Life Fieldhouse

Runners will take a scenic run through Downtown Indy while enjoying entertainment from spirit groups and a finish line celebration at Pan Am Plaza with the Notre Dame cheerleaders.

Shamrock Series Fan Fest

Saturday, Sept. 13 from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Georgia Street

Live music, corn hole, an obstacle course, food trucks, a drummers’ circle and more – all on the Georgia Street Boardwalk.

Be Irish for a weekend! The 19th Annual Indianapolis Irish Fest takes place in Military Park Sept. 12 – 14. Irish Fest offers cultural activities for the family in an effort to promote Irish culture, arts, music, sports and history.

Listen to live jazz during Indy Jazz Fest: Maceo Parker performs at Madame Walker Theatre Sept. 12. Sarah Gazarek performs at the Cabaret at the Columbia Club Sept. 12 and 13. Hear Indy’s own Josh Kaufman in a performance at Old National Centre Sept. 13. The Steve Turre Quintet performs the music of JJ Johnson at Indiana Landmarks Centre Sept. 14.

All about #ColtsNation

The Indianapolis Colts hosts its first regular season home game Monday, Sept. 15 at Lucas Oil Stadium against the Philadelphia Eagles. Leading up to the game, the team has several events planned for fans. The Colts teamed up with United Way of Central Indiana to host The BIG KICKOFF on Friday, Sept. 12 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Monument Circle. This is a FREE event and includes a live performance by Dave and Rae.

On Monday morning, the Colts will turn the canal blue as Mayor Greg Ballard and Governor Mike Pence declare it “Blue Monday” throughout the city and state. Starting at 4 p.m., stop by Lucas Oil Stadium’s North Gate for the American Family Insurance Touchdown Town, the Colts premier pre-game party. Activities include Quarterback Challenge games, rides down the Colts horse slide, the Play 60 Zone and corn hole. Enjoy live music from local bands, food trucks and drink specials. This event is FREE.

Also on Monday, Blue’s Fan Van will be making stops at two Downtown locations to distribute prizes to fans sporting Colts apparel. The Fan Van will stop on Monument Circle at 8 a.m. and on Georgia Street at noon for the Primetime Lunchtime event.

The Colts are partnering with 1070 The Fan to host a lunchtime pep rally on Georgia Street on Monday, Sept. 15 from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Primetime Lunchtime is FREE and will feature food trucks, a performance by Colts Cheerleaders, a DJ, Blue’s Fan Van, a visit from Monday Night Football announcers John Gruden and Mike Tirico and more.

Live Downtown

Curious about living Downtown? In partnership with Indianapolis Monthly, Downtown Indy is hosting a Downtown Living Tour Friday, Sept. 12 and Saturday, Sept. 13. Meet at Scottish Ride Cathedral and a shuttle will take you to six Downtown properties: 800 North Capitol Apartments, Allen Plaza, Artistry, Axis, Circa and The Maxwell. VIP tickets for the Friday preview party (includes appetizers and cocktails) are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Tickets for the public tour on Saturday are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.
