UPDATE (Sept. 13, 2014, 9:40 AM): IFD have identified the woman as 50-year-old Therese Hause.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Sept. 12, 2014) – A 50-year-old woman died in a fire on the city’s east side Friday morning.

The fire started just after 4:15 a.m. in the 7500 block of East Washington Street.

The Indianapolis Fire Department responded after neighbors called 911. According to IFD, one neighbor tried to get inside the home but couldn't because of excessive heat.

The fire caused minimal damage and was put out quickly by fire crews. The woman's identity has not yet been released, but family members told FOX59 she lived by herself.

Two cats were missing from the home.

IFD originally reported that there were no working smoke detectors at the home. Fire officials clarified that later Friday morning, saying the home did have a smoke detector that alerted a neighbor to the fire.
