AVON–It was a  Hoosier Crossroads Conference showdown that for the past two years has ended in Fishers’ favor; but this year, on the night of Avon’s homecoming, the outcome shifted.

Even before the game began, Avon bragged about a solid week of practice–days of preparations the Orioles hoped would translate into a win under the lights.

Early first quarter, Avon’s Brandon Peter hit Andrew Griffin in the chest for the first score of the night. Orioles in the lead 7-0.

Next up it was Fishers’ Maurice Campbell. He ran in a 13-yard touchdown, tying the game at 7-7. He would score again in the second quarter on a 19-yard run, putting his team ahead 14-7.

Later in the half. Griffin picked up a second touchdown to tie the game at 14. That score followed by a Matt Moore touchdown, catching a long pass from quarterback Brandon Peters. The Orioles were up big at the break 29-14 after yet another touchdown and a safety.

In the second half, there was a touchdown apiece for Avon and Fishers. Avon held on tight to win 36-26.

The significance: this ends a two year losing streak to Fishers and also gives the Tigers their first loss in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference play.

“It feels great. The game always comes down to the wire with these guys. It usually comes down to the last few plays, so it felt great to get a good, solid win tonight,” said Griffin.
