A man died after being pulled from an east side retention pond Sunday afternoon.

IFD was called to the 4900 block of East 38th Street, just west of Emerson Avenue, at about 12:45.  When they arrived, witnesses told firefighters that a man had entered the water but had not surfaced.

Divers were able to locate the man and pull him from the pond about 12 minutes after he entered the water.  He was transported to Eskenazi Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.  He is identified as a black male in his 20s.
