Seasonal hiring already underway as openings rise

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Oct. 13, 2014) -- Job seekers looking for seasonal positions should already by applying for those jobs, according to advice from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

The number of seasonal jobs is expected to rise this holiday shopping season as well, said IDWD spokesperson Joe Frank.

"This year looks pretty good, especially compared to previous years," Frank said.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development said some retailers have already announced their seasonal hiring goals:

  • Target - 70,000
  • Macy's - 86,000
  • UPS - 95,000
  • Toys 'R' Us - 45,000
  • Kohl's - 67,000
  • J.C. Penney - 35,000
  • GameStop - 25,000
  • Walmart - 60,000

"The seasonal hires are very important to the retailer, very important to their growth, so definitely getting your job search started early and seeking out all opportunities is very important," said Frank.

According to our media partners at the IndyStar, several area Aldi locations will hold job fairs as will retailers from the Castleton Square Mall.

The Aldi hiring fair is Wednesday for stores in Indianapolis, Plainfield and Avon. The event runs from 9 a.m. to noon and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Plainfield Aldi, 2382 E. Main St. They're looking for store managers and associates.

Castleton Square Mall will hold interviews on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. About 25 retailers are hiring for an assortment of full- and part-time jobs like cashiers, sales associates and stockers.
