INDIANAPOLIS – Sometimes the ping pong balls bring a chance for rivals to collide with more than pride on the line.

That was the case for a pair of foes from Hamilton County and the southside of Indianapolis.

Perry Meridian would get another shot at Southport after getting beaten badly by the Cardinals early in the season. Hamilton Southeastern had a similar shot against county rival Fishers, whom they lost to 41-10.

But what happened in the regular season held true when the teams met against in Class 6A Sectional play on Friday night-it’s just that things were a bit closer.

In fact Perry Meridian held a 14-9 lead at halftime against Southport and Hamilton Southeastern stayed within striking distance of Fishers for most of the game. But the Cardinals would surge in the second half to beat the Falcons 31-21 while the Tigers pitched the shutout of the Royals 21-0 at home.

Southport moves onto the Sectional 7 championship game where they will host Franklin Central-who beat Tech on Friday night. Fishers will travel to Carmel, who defeated Noblesville on the road 28-6 in their Sectional opener.
