Marion man shot after leading police on chase

Marion, IND. (November 16, 2014) –A Marion Police officer allegedly shot a man Saturday night after he led the officer on a chase.

Indiana State Police say around 4:30 Sunday morning, officers were called to a disturbance involving multiple people in the 2800 block of Boot Street in Marion.

As an officer was approaching the area, he saw a man, later identified as Chris Cook, 26 of Marion walking near 30th and Boot Street.

The officer got out of his vehicle to speak with Cook and he allegedly ran from the officer.

During the chase, the officer said he saw Cook with a handgun and told him to drop the gun and show his hands.

Instead, Cook allegedly made a motion as it turning towards the officer.

At that point the officer allegedly fired a shot, which struck Cook in the lower right torso.

He was taken by helicopter to a Ft. Wayne hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.
