INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Dec. 17, 2014) -- A central Indiana mother is heartbroken after she says someone stole from her son's grave site.

A three-foot tall angel sat on the headstone of Dawn Chappell's son Cody for almost two years at Acton Cemetery off Acton Road before thieves took it.

The acrylic angel could be seen from far away, and it was how Chappell knew she wasn't far from her son.

"Coming in to the cemetery it was like a beacon," Chappell said. "I could see it from the front, and it's devastating to not have anything here now."

It was a male angel with hand-painted gold wings--one-of-a-kind as she described it. A smaller cement angel was also stolen. Both had been on Cody Chappell's headstone for 18 months.

"It was probably one of the most beautiful decorations in the cemetery," Chappell said.

She thinks they were stolen about 10 days ago. Since then, Cody's mother and brother, Colton, have been speechless.

"There's nothing you can really say about it, just being shocked that somebody actually did that," Colton said.

Dawn Chappell talked to the people who keep up the cemetery, and they say they never took anything, so she wants to know who did.

Anyone with information is asked to call Central Indiana Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
