(December 31, 2014) – Over the past few months, we have shared the incredible story of basketball hero Lauren Hill and her battle with cancer.

Hill made it her mission to raise $1 million for cancer research before the end of 2014. And yesterday during Lauren’s Million Dollar Telethon she did just that!

WCPO reports that an anonymous donation helped Hill and company surpass her goal. “Just as we were waiting for the last $9,000, we received a walk-in anonymous donation of $116,000,” said Brooke Desserich of The Cure Starts Now Foundation. “… It was an incredibly generous donation. Lots of tears in the room.”

WCPO also spoke with Hill who said, “I mean, to reach it this fast and to have so many people that care enough to donate … Thank you, everybody that’s here. Thank you, everybody that donated and are still donating. And I hope that donations don’t stop with this.”

Bengals defensive lineman Devon Still congratulated Hill via Twitter.

As you may remember, Hill is fighting a rare form of cancer called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG).

She gained national attention when the NCAA granted her request to move her school’s first home game up in the season so Hill could fulfill her dream of playing college basketball.
