PENDLETON, Ind. (December 31, 2014) – An Anderson man is accused of molesting children at a time when he was running a candy store in Pendleton.

William Gilliland, 67, was arrested Tuesday. He faces three counts of child molestation, two counts of child exploitation and one count of child pornography.

The Madison County sheriff says the investigation started in August 2014. Investigators searched his home and candy store on Main Street. Gilliland sold his candy store inventory in December to another store owner in downtown Pendleton.

Gilliland is accused of having sexual contact with two kids, ages 8 and 11 years old, more than three years ago. The arrest shocked people who live by Gilliland.

“You know, you just don’t want to believe it,” said neighbor Austin Fridley.

“I knew Bill, he’s a Vietnam veteran. I asked him about his service, he’d sit down and tell me stories, stuff like that. It’s just pure disbelief,” Fridley said.

Court documents from the Madison County Prosecutor's Office show investigators found graphic video on a camera that was inside Gilliland’s home. Those documents also state that another woman has since come forward with other molestation accusations.
