(December 31, 2014) – We are officially less than 24 hours from the New Year, and that means it’s time to start thinking about New Year’s resolutions! According to research conducted by the University of Scranton, 45% of Americans will make a New Year’s resolution this year. But even with all of those good intentions, only 8% of those people will actually achieve their New Year’s goals.

Why do so many people fail?

Forbes suggests that it is because too many people turn their NYE resolution into a long list that becomes an extreme life makeover. There’s nothing wrong with setting high goals for yourself, but according to Forbes, “shooting for the moon can be so psychologically daunting, you end up failing to launch in the first place.” Instead, their suggestion is to set one or two attainable goals.

Listed below are the top ten New Year’s resolutions people typically make.

  1. Lose Weight
  2. Getting Organized
  3. Spend Less, Save More
  4. Enjoy Life to the Fullest
  5. Staying Fit and Healthy
  6. Learn Something Exciting
  7. Quit Smoking
  8. Help Others in Their Dreams
  9. Fall in Love
  10. Spend More Time with Family
